Notifications and email
Your Inbox tells you when something needs you. You never get a notification for something you did yourself.
What reaches your Inbox
- Assignments: an issue is assigned to you.
- Mentions: someone mentions you in a description or comment.
- Followed comments: someone comments on an issue you follow.
- Deferred intake returns: a report you deferred comes back to Needs decision.
- Last blocker resolved: the last issue blocking your work is finished or removed as a blocker.
If one change does several of these at once, you get one notification for it. Open one to go to its issue, or choose Mark all read.
Mentions
Type @ in a description or comment and choose the person from the list. Only a person chosen from the list is mentioned and notified; a name typed out in full is just text. When you edit a comment, only the people you newly mention are notified.
Following and muting an issue
You follow an issue automatically when you create it, are assigned to it, comment on it or are mentioned in it. Use Follow or Unfollow on the issue to change that.
Mute an issue to stop all its notifications to you without unfollowing it. Unmute it from the issue, or from Muted issues in Settings. Nothing you missed while it was muted is sent afterwards.
Your preferences
In Settings, under Notifications, each person chooses which kinds of notification they want. A kind you mute stops reaching your Inbox and your email; what is already in your Inbox stays.
Vector can also email you when you are assigned an issue or mentioned. Turn this on or off with Email assignments and mentions. Other notifications stay in your Inbox only.
An email names the issue, its identifier and who made the change, with a link to the issue. Opening it asks you to sign in. It never includes the description, comments or files, so keep anything private in the issue itself rather than its title.
If Settings says email notifications are off for this installation, sending email has not been set up yet; your Inbox works the same. Emails that could not be sent are listed under Email delivery updates. Vector tries a refused email up to three times in a day, and never sends one twice when it cannot tell whether the first got through.
